Fish Hunt Forever and Prairie Sportsman spent time at the Northwest Angle last winter once again and the cameras were rolling. Anglers got on the big perch bite, found limits of walleyes and toured the various restaurants and resorts up there. Ray Ruiz from Baztec and Joe Henry from Lake of the Woods Tourism joined us, along with Jennifer Pudenz from Adventuress. This was her first trip to the angle, so we featured her on a new Prairie Sportsman episode.

Here’s the :30 promo

Her mission with Adventuress is to help women get into the outdoors and then learn from other women about choosing the right gear, planning adventures and more. The goal is to offer tips from the perspective of a woman, which can be different from most outdoor media outlets.

Fish Hunt Forever Vlog Video

Dan and I filmed a video for the Fish Hunt Forever YouTube channel during the trip and that’s available now, I’ll link it below. We also filmed a segment with Jennifer for this week’s Prairie Sportsman. It will be on Pioneer PBS Sunday night at 7:30pm and also available on the Prairie Sportsman YouTube channel. Prairie Sportsman Episode Press Release

GRANITE FALLS, Minnesota, April 3, 2025—Host Bret Amundson visits with Adventuress Magazine’s Jennifer Pudenz, who has made it her mission to help more women be successful in the outdoors, and researchers study cyanobacteria threats to Lake Superior, all on the next Prairie Sportsman. “Women Adventurers and Lake Superior Threats” will air on Pioneer PBS Sunday, April 6, at 7:30 p.m. Check local listings and our showtimes landing page for air dates and times on other PBS stations in Minnesota and surrounding states.

In “Women Helping Women,” Host Bret Amundson goes ice fishing with Jennifer Pudenz of Adventuress Magazine as she visits the Northwest Angle for the first time. They discuss her mission to help more women be successful in the outdoors through the magazine and how she guides outdoor ministry events. Jennifer notes, “Adventuress is actually the only women’s hunting and fishing magazine … and it’s all about giving credit to experienced women and also sharing that with other women. When I was growing up I didn’t have any women to look up to in the outdoor industry, and follow like that, so that’s a really big deal to me that other people have that.”

Lake Superior Threat

The next segment, “A Superior Threat,” features researchers studying the evolutionary significance of cyanobacteria, more commonly called blue-green algae, as the organism begins to appear in the cold waters of Lake Superior. Understanding these blooms is key to predicting when the toxic version of cyanobacteria might appear and pose threats to people and pets.

The final segment is about foraging. Fast Forager, Nicole Zempel introduces us to the medicinal power of mullein for help with asthma and other breathing issues. The plant can grow up to 10 feet tall, flowering in the morning and closing up in the afternoon.
