What did you do during the extended vacation of 2020?

I used to the time to brainstorm new ideas to bring you outdoor content. As more and more people started working from home, it seemed video podcasts became more popular. I started doing them daily, giving you updates on the latest in the outdoor world. News was happening fast back then.

I settled into the weekly podcast with Sporting Journal Radio, which Dan, David and I started to do on video. I also came up with the idea for Raising Tiny and after a long conversation with Cory Loeffler, I decided to start a waterfowl-themed podcast.

The first season was about the craziest band stories I’d heard. I knew of a few from close friends and after reaching out on social media, I heard a few that I needed to include.

I recorded a number of these podcasts, while branching out into a number of different projects. This meant that the NAWP and Raising Tiny took a back seat for a couple of years.

Earlier this year, I made the effort to get the episodes edited and put out. Currently, there are three Raising Tiny episodes on the Fish Hunt Forever YouTube channel, with a fourth coming soon.

I also finished up a bunch episodes of the North American Waterfowl Podcast and just loaded up the final one. I’m hoping to get back into this podcast and record some new episodes, but lately we’ve been putting our waterfowl content into Sporting Journal Radio.

Our NAWP shows included finding a 30+ year old band washed up along a river, a strange band that led to an ARGO dealer, the longest recorded bird migration in the world and more. We also had to hear the story of Jack Miner. I’m going to post them all here so you can listen or watch them below.

The most recent episode isn’t about waterfowl necessarily, but it’s a bird that hold the world-record for longest recorded migration. When I prepped for the interview, the record was 8 days. The day before we recorded, a new record of 10 days was set. And then two years later, it was broken again by a bird of the same species with 11 days straight of non-stop flight. Crazy!

He are the rest of the North American Waterfowl Podcasts:

The Longest Recorded Bird Migration: 11 days of non-stop flight North American Waterfowl

The first season of the North American Waterfowl Show features some of the craziest band stories we’ve heard. We’ve got a series of episodes coming from finding rare bands, to the origination of banding to the longest migration on record. We recorded them in 2021, but are finally getting around to releasing them. These episodes will available to download, stream and watch. This podcast is about a banded bird that flew for 10 straight days! When we recorded this podcast in 2021, the longest bird migration record had just been broken and it sat at 10 days. It was broken again in 2022 (11 days) by a bird of the same species after this podcast was done.
