The Fundra 2.0 truck wrap is here! What do you think of the new skin?

I appreciated the clean look of the original Fundra. Just the simple Fish Hunt Forever logo on the side with the best tailgate in the state (IMO). That tailgate showed up in Facebook groups, snapchat messages and all sorts of weird places.

Fundra 2.0
With the Fundra 2.0 truck wrap, I decided to keep the walleye, but make it bigger and put it on a side. It was a tough decision because it worked so well on the tailgate. Ultimately, I went with a new design since I had a topper window to work with too. After workshopping a few designs, I went with a waterfowl-themed scene. The tailgate would feature some mallards dabbling on the water, with one brightly-colored drake taking off.

The seal between the topper and the tailgate would act as the water’s surface, while an image above showed a drake coming through the Fish Hunt Forever logo and “angel-winging” his way down.
I had a few images in mind that I wanted to put on the side of the truck. These were all images that Dan Amundson or I have taken. I tried to work my lab, Tiny, into it somehow, but just couldn’t get it to look right. I settled on something more simple and I’m glad I did.
Installing the Fundra 2.0 Truck Wrap
I’ve done a few truck wrap designs in the past at the radio stations I worked at. But most of them factored in the original color of the truck, similar to the first Fundra. The Fundra 2.0 truck wrap would be a complete wrap so measurements were important.
Jamie Dietman of Brainerd Signs, (who is also a longtime fishing guide in the area) did the work once again. He took my designs and went through the arduous process of making it look good on the truck. There were some tweaks and reprints due to my miscalculations. Turns out these new trucks aren’t just straight lines! There are curves, nooks, crannies, bends, spleen splitters, whisker biscuits, honky lighters, and donkey balls in there too. I give Jamie a lot of credit for stretching that material in areas where few men have gone.

Picking the Images for the Fundra 2.0 Truck Wrap
One of my favorite photos is a rooster flushing from cattails. I was walking my labs a couple Octobers ago and had picked up the camera instead of a shotgun. Both Mika and Tiny got birdy on a corner and dove in headfirst. A burst of feathers came rushing towards me and I threw the camera up and started clicking. The bird was almost too close and the first few shots were blurry. But as we both started to turn, the image came into focus. As the shutter snapped as fast as it would go, the picture got clearer. Even in that small viewfinder, I could tell I had something special.

Pheasants Forever choose to use the image to promote Pheasant Fest in 2023. It appeared on 45+ billboards across the upper midwest, in marketing materials, social media and more.

That was my favorite image of the sequence, but there were a couple others that stood out:

I had the image on the original Fundra. I wanted it bigger on the 2.0 so we put it on a larger part of the drivers side. Unfortunately, the topper windows broke up the image a bit, but what do you do.

The Hard Parts
One of the hardest parts of this job is that the sheets printed cover only so much of the truck. Jamie had to match up the camo pattern where different sheets lined up. Plus, keep the pattern consistent across doors, windows and other parts of the truck.

The hood was particularly tricky since it was too big for one sheet. So we (Jamie) came up with the idea to put “Fish Hunt Forever” across the front to fill in the gap.
The Fundra 2.0 Truck Wrap Rejects
How’d we do? The Fundra 2.0 truck wrap was a process that started in February. I photoshopped a number of ideas before settling on this camo-centric design. I really wanted to have wild images that look larger than life on the sides. I just couldn’t get the clean look I wanted.

The tailgate had big shoes to fill. I had a couple images that I really liked and almost went with. The first being a retrieve from Tiny. I ultimately decided against having anything dead on the truck.

This image has been another popular one of mine. I really wanted to work it in to the Fundra 2.0 truck wrap. It shows hen pheasants coming in to land right in front of the camera. It was from a couple winters ago when I patterned a group of pheasants feeding each day. At least twice per day they would fly into this food plot. I watched them from a distance until I felt I could safely get into the plot unnoticed. I found tail feather tracks that gave away their landing location. For two weeks I sat in the cold. Once in the morning and once in the afternoon. I’d sit for two hours or so each time waiting for them to fly in, feed and fly out. You can see some of the videos in this episode of Prairie Sportsman.
With a rooster on one side and a walleye on the other, I wanted to include waterfowl somewhere. The tailgate was the spot. I’ve had people ask where the deer and turkeys are, but I could only fit so much on without it getting cluttered.
The Inspiration
I decided to wait until after our trip to Saskatchewan to get the wrap done. We had a two-day drive to Fort McMurray, Alberta before flying to Tazin Lake Lodge. We had a short window before that trip to get the job done and I just wasn’t happy with any of the designs.
We kicked around a few things while we were at Tazin, including some of the underwater shots we’ve gotten there. Like this lake trout:

But. It’s a lake trout. We love ’em, but we’re still bigger fans of walleyes, along with everyone else in Minnesota.
After the trip, we landed at McMurray Aviation to begin our trip home. Walking through the parking lot, I noticed a vehicle there with a camo wrap.

As soon as I saw it, I knew what I was going to do. I searched through hundreds of camo patterns trying to find something that would stand out. Something modern, yet old school. The truck was red and knowing how hard it was going to be to wrap it, I considered using red in the design.

These were rough approximations of how the wrap would look of course, but you get the idea. I had a few variations of this but didn’t like any of them. I really wanted that epic picture of Tiny to make it in, but I just couldn’t make it work.

Where To See It
We recently spent a few days at Game Fair. We love that show. I’d prefer it was only one weekend however, but that’s for another story. The truck made it’s first appearance there and was received well. In fact, I posted something on my snapchat (@bretamundson) about it as soon as I got to the hotel and within 5 minutes, I had a message back from someone else staying at that hotel with a picture of it in the parking lot.

Fundra 2.0 Truck Wrap Contest
We had a contest with the original Fundra where you could spot the truck and win prizes. We’re going to do that again now with the Fundra 2.0. We’ll be announcing it soon! If you see the truck, SAFELY take a picture of it and send it to us. We’ll enter you in the contest as soon as it’s announced.
In the meantime, comment below or on our Facebook page about our Fundra 2.0 truck wrap! Did we screw it up or get it right?
