Back in March, we made our way back down to Kentucky Lake. Stop #2 of Division 1 of the Bassmaster Opens was there, and a couple of friends of mine were fishing it. Joe Titus and Matt Kennedy are 2 of the 12 anglers from Minnesota fishing the Bass Opens this year. Kentucky Lake is kicking out a lot of big smallmouth these days, and that usually sets up well for MN bassheads, giving everyone a lot of optimism.
Joe and Matt had to decide on whether to swing for the fences and go for a win (which also means a Bassmaster Classic berth) but risk striking out, which puts them in a tough spot to make the Elite Series Qualifications at the end of the season, or to play it conservative, make sure to bring fish to weigh in each day, and keep the season alive.
I got to hop in the boat and film with Joe during not only practice, but the actual tournament days as well. Everyone sees the big fish catches and the winning bag, but there are a lot of other things that go on at these events. Bad weather, equipment failures, broken plans, etc. We saw it all.
We soaked it all in and captured the roller coaster that is tournament fishing in our latest Fish Hunt Forever video that you see at the top of the page.
