LATEST VIDEOS: SJR Show 601 | New Prairie Sportsman | The Canadian Experience

Whew. Show season is finally over for me.

The last few weeks have been a whirlwind. From heading to Sioux Falls for Pheasant Fest to multiple trips to the Twin Cities for the MN Deer and Turkey Classic and the Northwest Sportshow. I had planned to get over to the Wild Sheep Foundation banquet, but just ran out of time.

We even snuck a Wild game in and saw Fleury’s 75th career shutout!

This past weekend, I was at the Minneapolis Convention Center for the annual Northwest Sportshow. I’ve been working the Tazin Lake Lodge booth for the last few years there and it’s always good to see the fellow booth workers that I’ve gotten to know over the years along with those in the angling industry. We heard from a lot of people who saw the recent Lindner’s Angling Edge episode from Tazin on the Outdoor Channel and The Canadian Experience episode that’s available now on YouTube here.

I had the chance to talk technology and barotrauma a bit with Jeremy Smith from Lindner’s Angling Edge, discuss potential fishing regs with Mark Holston from MN Fish, and touch on topics like Mille Lacs with a whole bunch of other anglers at the event. We also told them about giant lakers and pike at Tazin of course.

At the same time, the annual banquet and fundraiser was going on for the Midwest Chapter of the Wild Sheep Foundation at the Minneapolis Marriott in Minnetonka. This year they were auctioning off sheep tags for North and South Dakota along with Wyoming. They also had two statewide youth turkey tags in South Dakota. If you missed this event, make plans to attend next year.

If you watched our walkthrough at the MN Deer and Turkey Classic, you saw a few interviews along the way. On the latest Sporting Journal Radio podcast, you can see extended versions of those interviews, watch/listen here. We talked to Melissa Bachman, Pat and Nicole Reeve from Driven TV, Jen Pudenz from Adventuress, and more.

One of our favorite Prairie Sportsman episodes so far this year is a giant fundraiser for the St Jude Children’s Hospital. The Dick Hiley Bass Classic takes place on the Mississippi River at Wabasha and this past year, they raised over one million dollars for St Jude. UNREAL. These anglers are great anglers who want to win, but also are happy to be a part of such a great event. We also learned a bit about some of the people involved and how this event is personal for them. Watch it here.
