Last week, the Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers held a media camp at River Bend Resort on Lake of the Woods. Media camps are a way for outdoor content creators to connect with destinations, (like Lake of the Woods Tourism/River Bend Resort) and brands. Sponsors for this trip were KastKing, Favorite Rods and Smith’s Consumer Products.
Fishing was good, even if it could be considered tough by Lake of the Woods standards. A weather change halfway through the trip slowed things, but a healthy amount of eater walleyes and saugers were caught, with a few nice fish lost at the hole. In fact, I had at least two that would have been in the slot pop off before I could get them on the ice.

40 YEAR PHEASANT
A few months back, Scott Mackenthun called me with an idea. He wanted retired Conservation Officer Darin Fagerman to go pheasant hunting for the first time in over 40 years. I was happy to take him out and film it for Prairie Sportsman. Some of the stories Darin told about fighting wildfires along the Gunflint Trail, shooting antlers off of bucks who were stuck and more, were wild. Some of them didn’t make the show including some hairy situations where he had to check sketchy people for licenses when illegal activity was obviously involved. Watch the show here to see if he was able to get a rooster on the show:
