If you’ve ever shot a band in Minnesota – or anywhere along the Mississippi Flyway, you might recognize the name Bruce Davis. Bruce is the head of the banding program with the Minnesota DNR. In recent years he started putting gps transmitters, or “backpacks” on mallards to learn their habits from when they migrate out of state, how far they go, what time they feed and what type of fields they’re using. We talked to Bruce about what he’s learned so far.
The first season of the North American Waterfowl Show features some of the craziest band stories we’ve heard. We’ve got a series of episodes coming from finding rare bands, to the origination of banding to the longest migration on record. We recorded them in 2021, but are finally getting around to releasing them. These episodes will available to download, stream and watch.
